Mr. Alexander Barrett’s architectural design projects (both commissioned and collaborative) and his background in finance are the foundation for the “design + develop + dwell” plan of 38 Spatial, Inc.
In addition to architectural design and construction management, Alexander's resume includes twelve years of acting trustee and conservator of family estates.
Having worked for architectural firms in California and New York City, his design firm, Progetto Barrett, started in 2000, focused on residential and small commercial projects. This early work with clients in California provided the seed for his interest in development. In 2004, Mr. Barrett created 38 Spatial, LLC. With the market as client, 38 Spatial's design build ventures included projects on both coasts. With 38Spatial, Inc., begun in 2009, the design-build team proffers client services. The company bridges his two passions, architectural design and construction.
Mr. Barrett studied architectural engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and received his Bachelor of Architecture at Pratt Institute in New York.
Ms. Sowle's portfolio of work includes residential design and development, the preservation of Landmark Building facades through restoration, and extensive pre-war housing conversions.
Prior to architectural study, Ms. Sowle developed interiors products while working for Brunschwig et Fils, Inc. Some of her more noteworthy design and development work includes: in-house architect for the Brown Companies' architectural development "The Sagaponac Project" and project management of the historic facade restoration of The Foward Building in lower Manhattan, a ten-storey building converted from the Daily Forward's office tower to condominium loft units.
Ms. Sowle balances her design-build practice with pedagogical work as Visiting Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute in New York. Having instigated and managed complex negotiations for proposals approved by New York City', Ms. Sowle brings to her work with 38Spatial a breadth of knowledge. She has provided design and development oversight for 38 Spatial since 2005.
Ms. Sowle obtained her BArch and MArch degrees from Pratt Institute, and earlier, a BA in Liberal Studies from SUNY-Purchase.
Butler is a licensed Architect who has been practicing design and architecture for over eighteen years, taking on various design, architecture and management capacities with GAP Inc., Pugh + Scarpa, Frank Gehry and Associates, Cooper Carry and Associates. His work has been cited in a variety of design and architectural publications from Metropolis, Architecture, Interior Design to Metropolitan Home.
As founder of Butler Architecture and Design, Jackson serves as Creative and Business Director. Butler Architecture and Design is comprised of designers and architects in the fields of architecture, creative design and marketing with work ranging from commercial and retail interior design, custom homes, large-scale residential communities to brand development. Butler also co-created a development company, pollen8 LLC in 2003, specializing in custom residential developments with a focus on green construction materials, practices and life-cycle value.
Butler received his MArch from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles. Butler lends his depth of experience and immense talent to the 38 Spatial design team.
Mr Roche's passion for creative problem solving has generated an impressive roster of satisfied clients. Roché has sought to apply the principles and disciplines of his formal training to the design needs of our clients. Mr Roche joined the design team at 38Spatial in 2009.
Roche was lead brand designer for client companies such as Gap and Smith & Hawken. While working for Bé Design he was responsible for developing brand communication strategy for numerous reputable trademarks, including the Smirnoff red label vodka redesign; the naming of Thomas Keller’s New York City venture,Per se, as well as overseeing brand strategy and creative development for ahost of clients ranging from 24-Hour Fitness to Taylor’s Automatic Refresher.
His architectural portfolio includes The Trueblood Residence in Palm Springs, the Sterling Residence in Napa Valley and the Bure Residence in St. Helena.
Mr. Roche earned a BS in Environmental design from UC Davis and an MArch from UC Berkeley and was awarded the prestigious Branner Travelling Fellowship.
Loren is a Southern California native. He began his construction career early, working for his family's building and development company in San Diego.
After arriving in Northern California in the 1990's, Mr. Ostler worked in San Francisco managing high-end commercial and residential projects for one of the largest building firms in the Bay Area.
Relocated to the Napa Valley to oversee projects for two of the areas premier construction companies, his projects consisted of residential estates, custom wineries, and commercial spaces.
In 2005, Loren started OCM, a small building and consulting company, specializing in providing clients with outstanding customer service, detail, design and quality. Loren now joins 38 Spatial, as head of the develop team for work on the West Coast.
Raised in the Sonoma county, Scherer began his career with residential work, spending nine years working for two of the larger building firms in Northern California. He attributes his passion for quality to his extensive training during those early years.
Matt moved to the Napa Valley in 2004. Employed by a premiere Valley builder, he managed projects that include corporate offices, wineries and residential renovations. A building professional, Matt is passionate about quality work and responsible building. Scherer joined 38 Spatial in 2009.
Ms. Talcott's work in estate and property management and her extensive experience in business management and client services is an asset to the administration of 38Spatial. Adrian joined the company in 2007.
Ms. Talcott obtained her MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics & Political Science, and a Bachelor in Communications and History from Northwestern University.
